TOSCA Talking Travel: V8 Supercar Driver Chaz Mostert October 5, 2018 – Posted in: Talking Travel
Welcome to TOSCA’s Talking Travel blog. With Bathurst just around the corner, our next guest is Champion V8 Supercar Driver and 2014 Bathurst winner Chaz Mostert. Learn more about the travel habits of one Australia’s best V8 Supercar drivers.
WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO TRAVEL GADGETS?
Easily my phone. I travel about half of the weeks of the year, and once I get somewhere it’s usually very busy with not a lot of downtime. Whenever I do have some free time I like to play games or scroll social media, I’m big on Clash of Clans right now, so I have to have my phone near me when I’m on the road.
FAVOURITE HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND WHY?
I work whenever we go out there, so I don’t know if it counts as a holiday, but Perth. I don’t get out to Western Australia too often on my own time, but we race out there once a year and the fans really turn out. The beaches are nice and it’s a great city, it’s one of my favourite trips of the year.
FAVOURITE RACE TRACK & WHY
Just about every Supercars driver will say this, but Bathurst. It’s such a challenging track and has some of the best sights you will ever see at a race track. The Bathurst 1000 is our biggest race of the year, and I was fortunate enough to win it in 2014. It’s an incredible circuit and iconic in Australian sport, and everyone enjoys going there.
TIPS FOR TRAVELLING
Charge your phone. I’m always on mine and the helpless feeling of having a dead phone battery in transit is terrifying. It’s even more terrifying when your phone’s dead and your partner is expecting a text when you land, or even worse when you have five minutes to play Clash of Clans but can’t.
WHERE WAS YOUR LAST FAMILY HOLIDAY?
Well pretty much every race round is a family holiday, my dad comes to almost every race and it’s always good to have his support so close. My last real holiday was actually just before the Townsville round, I went to Cape Upstart for a few days with some mates and caught a few Spanish Mackerel off the coast, it was really nice to relax for a bit and get away from everything.
MOST IMPORTANT ITEM IN YOUR SUITCASE?
Obviously my race suit. It’s not like you can wander down to a clothing store and pick out a fire suit if you leave yours at home, so I have to have that in my suitcase no matter what.
THOUGHTS ON THE TOSCA PRIME LITE
It’s a great suitcase for someone who travels as often as we do in racing. The Prime Lite is light and compact enough that it doesn’t feel like a big suitcase, but it stores all the essential stuff I bring with me on trip. It’s tough enough that it’s survived a couple of tumbles down the stairs, so I know I can rely on it going from event to event.
