World of Sport: ‘TOSCA travellers, always travel first class’ September 25, 2018 – Posted in: History, Products, Travel – Tags: , , , ,

How good is Grand Final Week in Melbourne?  Does it get any better? For Collingwood and West Coast Eagles fans it certainly doesn’t!

The City is abuzz with excitement, and when the biggest sporting team in the Country is involved, it’s hard not to be swept up in the build up to that ‘One Day in September’.

Feeling a little nostalgic at this time of year, let’s take a trip down memory lane and look at TOSCA’s relationship with sport in Australia.

World of Sport was an Australian sports program that was broadcast live by HSV-7 in Melbourne from 1959 to 1987.  A unique combination of talk, banter, highly informed commentary, invented and real sports, the program held a unique place in the sports-obsessed culture of Melbourne and made stars out of a number of ex-sportsman, particularly Australian rules footballers.

Hosted by Radio Commentator Ron Casey, the two hour program quickly became ‘must watch television’ and part of Melbourne’s sporting fabric. Live commercials from Uncle Doug quickly saw ‘TOSCA travellers, always travel first class’ became part of the Australian vernacular. The TOSCA Travelgoods prizes were also highly sort after on the numerous ‘live’ sporting contests performed in the studios.

Much of TOSCA’s early success and ongoing affinity with the brand (particularly older Australian’s) can be attributed to the television program World of Sport and the colourful presenters that launched the product into lounge rooms all across the Country.

As the TOSCA brand continues to evolve and reinvigorate itself, revisiting the past may be the best way forward!

Good luck to your team on the weekend!
